About Birtley AC
Birtley AC was founded in 1987 and is based at Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy in Birtley, England. Its programme covers track and field, cross-country and road racing, with teams taking part in regional and national competitions as well as local leagues.
The club welcomes athletes from age seven and holds its main sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 18:45. Coaching is organised by age and experience. The endurance squad mixes developing runners with experienced competitors, while the joggers group offers more manageable sessions for people who can already run about three miles.
The joggers group developed from a Couch to 5K programme and welcomes people returning to running or trying a club for the first time. Newcomers can attend a taster session and should contact the secretary to confirm where to meet within the school site. Membership applications and weekly payments are handled online, with session and race information shared through Spond.
