About Birmingham Running Athletics & Triathlon Club (BRAT)
Birmingham Running, Athletics & Triathlon Club took its present form in 2010, when Birmingham Rowheath AC merged with Birmingham Running and Triathlon. The athletics side has much older roots: Smethwick Harriers began in 1921, and later mergers brought together clubs from Harborne, Oldbury, Warley and Rowheath. Their road relays, cross-country teams and track athletes all form part of BRAT’s history.
Today the club offers running, track and field, cycling and swimming, with a junior athletics section and separate contacts for each discipline. Its triathlon predecessor included Chrissie Wellington and Jodie Stimpson among its members. New athletes can ask about the group that suits their experience, while prospective cyclists should contact the club before joining a ride.
