About Belle Vue Racers
Belle Vue Racers was founded in 1989 by Eddie Cheetham, a former St Helens rugby league player and coach with a long involvement in athletics. The Manchester club originally trained at Pink Bank Lane in Longsight. After losing that track during preparations for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, it spent two years without a permanent base before moving to Sportcity in 2003.
Thursday coaching takes place at Manchester Regional Arena, with runners meeting at 18:45 for a 19:00 start. The club welcomes adults of different abilities and fields men's and women's teams in the Manchester Area and South East Lancashire cross-country leagues. Its own events include Hit The Trail and Mad Hatters.
Membership is restricted to people aged 18 and over, with first-claim and second-claim options. Anyone wishing to try a track session should email beforehand so the coaches know to expect them. The club's small-group atmosphere and founder's coaching legacy remain prominent in its own account of club life.
