Willowfield Temperance Harriers was founded in 1898 and remains part of East Belfast’s running community. Its archive preserves early medals, photographs and accounts of the club’s first 50 years, including the team’s Irish junior cross-country title in 1908.
The club now brings together younger runners, adult newcomers and experienced competitors, with road racing in summer and cross-country through winter. In 2021 its junior section received Athletics Ireland’s Top Juvenile Cross Country Club award. The history also records Neill Weir’s victory in the 155-mile Racing the Planet Patagonia event in 2017, showing the range of distances represented by Willowfield members.
