Annadale Striders was founded at the end of the 1973 track season, following discussions led by Neil Morton and Tony McKnight. Pupils from Annadale Grammar School formed the early core, and the new club quickly won age-group road relay and cross-country races. Its first Northern Ireland team championships followed in 1974.
The club’s history traces the development of athletes including middle-distance runner Paul Lawther, who represented Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games. It also records the work of coaches and volunteers who helped the young club establish itself across road, cross-country and track and field. The Malcolm Cup became one of its principal race promotions, continuing a connection with winter team competition.
