Calry Athletic Club is part of County Sligo's long-established athletics community. Neighbouring Sligo AC's own history recalls Calry's activity in the mid-1960s, before Sligo AC was formed in 1971. The local history project Memory of Calry also records Gerry Cunningham serving as club secretary in the early 1970s. These accounts establish a substantial local history without fixing an exact founding year.
Athletics Ireland lists Calry Community Park in Hazelwood as the club's training location and provides an online joining route.
