About Aughagower A.C.
Aughagower Athletics Club was founded in 2012 by Ernie Deacy, Breifne Gannon, Mel King and Lorna Harper. Based at the community centre in Aughagower, County Mayo, Ireland, it provides athletics for children and young people aged seven to eighteen. Its September-to-June programme introduces younger athletes to running, jumping and throwing, then helps older athletes develop those skills.
Community fundraising is an important part of the club's activity, including family events and a can-and-bottle collection campaign. A planned six-lane, 200-metre track and walking trail across from the community centre received planning approval in July 2024; the club's development page still describes fundraising, so the project is not presented here as an open facility. Families can use the club's shared email or Athletics Ireland membership page to ask about joining and the current training arrangements.
