About Ashington Hirst Running Club
Ashington Hirst Running Club grew out of Hirst Welfare Beginners, a small group that first ran together on 4 March 2014. Iain Singer helped develop the sessions after an approach from England Athletics. Members chose a club name, colours and committee in March 2015, and UK Athletics affiliation followed that April. Those beginnings still show in the club's mix of run/walk, steady running and more demanding training.
The Northumberland club is based at Ashington Rugby Club on Ellington Road. Tuesday and Thursday groups offer several paces, while Friday's social run usually meets at Fox Cover car park. Juniors aged 12 and over may join Tuesday efforts with a parent or guardian present. Newcomers can arrange two or three introductory runs and should arrive early to meet the leaders. Its community work includes the Festive 5K, support for Friends of Ashington Woods and food-bank collections.
