About Arena 80 AC

Arena 80 Athletic Club is based in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England. Despite its name, the club was formed in 1981: founder Ron Grover had developed the idea in 1980, and the name also recalled the Withdean Arena where members trained. Its early emphasis was on giving ordinary recreational runners a place to improve and race together.

The club’s history records a strong women’s team and athletes including Caroline Hoyte, formerly Herbert. Bob Page led its coaching and administration from 1999 to 2021, while Chris Naylor served as president between 2016 and 2023. These are historical associations rather than statements about present roles.

Today the adult programme combines Withdean track sessions, Hove Park intervals and seasonal outings on the seafront and around the Downs. Road racing is prominent, alongside cross-country and track competition; the club also stages the public Hove Prom 10K. Prospective members can use the contact form to arrange a trial session, with established members booking training through the club’s digital system.
