About Alchester Running Club
Alchester Running Club was founded in 1999 in Bicester, Oxfordshire, England. Its name recalls the Roman settlement of Alchester, and a phoenix appears in the club badge. Members run everything from shorter road races to marathons and beyond, alongside trail, multi-terrain and cross-country events.
Tuesday sessions focus on structured work such as intervals, with the venue changing between winter locations and Whitelands Farm Sports Ground in summer. Thursday group runs normally meet at Bicester and Ploughley Sports Centre on Queens Avenue. Pace groups cover roughly an hour of running, with shorter options best discussed with the club beforehand.
Membership is for adults aged eighteen and over. Trial visits give prospective members a way to meet the group before joining, while complete beginners may be directed towards a more suitable introductory programme. Club championships, social gatherings and the Alchester 5K add shared goals beyond the weekly sessions. Check the current training instructions before travelling, as the two main training evenings use different meeting arrangements.
