Biography

William Goodge, also known as Will Goodge, is a British endurance runner from Ampthill, Bedfordshire, and a former rugby player. His running has developed from long-distance charity challenges into multi-stage desert races and continental crossings. Much of his fundraising honours his mother, Amanda, who died from non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2018.

In 2019 he completed a reported 850-mile journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End in 16 days. In December 2020 he followed it with the 12 Marathons of Christmas, running a marathon distance on each of 12 consecutive days.

His 48|30 challenge ran from 4 September to 3 October 2021: 48 marathon distances across England’s 48 counties in 30 days. It ended at the London Marathon, where contemporary coverage reported a finish of about three hours and six minutes. The challenge’s marathon-distance runs are distinct from 48 separately organised races.

His ultra-racing history includes the 2019 London 2 Brighton Challenge, Country to Capital and Maverick Ultra Peaks in 2020, and the 2022 Marathon des Sables. At the latter he recorded 35:23:55 for the six-stage event, finishing 174th overall. He also entered the 2023 Kodiak 100-mile race, where the published result is DNF.

On 11 June 2022 he began a 104-mile circuit of Lake Como in Italy, documented by the Run Como film as a challenge completed in under 24 hours. In 2023 he completed a coast-to-coast run across the United States in a reported 55 days. Accounts give differing total mileages, so the duration and coast-to-coast achievement are recorded without treating those distances as interchangeable.

His 2024 race history includes Comrades, Never Summer 60k and Moab 240. Published results report 8:52:05 at Comrades, 9:03:58 at Never Summer and 84:24:19 at Moab, where he placed 11th overall. These endurance events differ substantially in course, elevation and format.

From 15 April to 19 May 2025, Goodge ran from Cottesloe Beach in Perth to Bondi Beach in Sydney. The Fastest Known Time record lists the supported crossing at 34 days, 8 hours and 1 minute. This is the precise recorded elapsed time; contemporary descriptions of a 35-day journey count the undertaking differently.

In 2026 his published Jackpot 100-mile result is DNF. A secondary London Marathon results page reports 2:47:52 on 26 April, consistent with his public discussion of a 2:47 London run. The individual result retains its verification label pending comparison with the original timing record.

Mission America is his announced October–November 2026 attempt to run 50 marathon distances in all 50 US states within 24 days, supporting Stand Up To Cancer. It began in Hawaii on 9 October, with the New York City Marathon on Sunday 1 November planned as the final run. As reviewed on 31 October, the challenge’s completion and any record certification are still pending.

The recorded nationality is United Kingdom.

William Goodge's published record includes performances from 2019 to 2026 in 98.8K, Marathon, 68.8K, 53.3K, 235K, 85.91K.
